Demand Response Aggregator Testing and Verification

As the traditional power plants are phased out in favour of renewable energy sources, the volatility of the power system frequency increases and new (and faster) sources for ancillary services are needed. Aggregators of demand response can leverage the flexibility in consumers in order to provide the needed ancillary services. Integrating these new actors in the current power system is challenging, not only in terms of ICT infrastructure, but also in terms of operational procedures related to the pre-qualification and verification processes that traditional generators must undergo.

Esteban works as PostDoc on two different projects. He is tasklead in EcoGrid 2.0, where he researches on topics related to aggregation methods for heat pumps in households and the verification of demand response services. For the ERIGrid project, he works on description methods for Smart Grid tests/experiments and models for co-simulation (with focus on aggregators), as well as being tasklead for the teaching activities of the project.
