On Monday 13 May EnergyLab Nordhavn together with KIRT x THOMSEN won the Danish Design Award 2019 for the visualizations of the energy solutions in the project EnergyLab Nordhavn.

The CEE led project EnergyLab Nordhavn won Danish Design Award 2019 in the category ‘Visionary Concepts’. The award is a best case example of what can be achieved when collaborating across sectors and competencies. For the past four years 12 partner companies from the Danish energy sector have worked together developing and demonstrating solutions for the future flexible and intelligent energy system. The designers KIRT X THOMSEN has succeeded visualizing many of our solutions which are often hidden in ceilings, walls and basements.

The Jury says:
EnergyLab Nordhavn is a relevant entry in this category since design is also about collaboration and how synergies in pursuit of a common goal can be achieved. Even if the end result is invisible, a design-led approach is invaluable. Energy is so important to the future of the planet that efforts to work collaboratively across energy sectors are a radical approach.

Project Manager Christoffer Greisen who received the award at the event in ‘Industriens Hus’ in Copenhagen elaborates: “We are humbled by receiving this award. It may be difficult to kick tires on our solutions, but one of them is already being scaled, with 7000 homes in Østerbro enrolled by HOFOR in a program to reduce the use of fossil fueled peak load boilers. Such impact would not be possible without the bold decision by EUDP to support the project in the first place.”

Adding that: “The award recognizes that the complex task of addressing energy infrastructures in a holistic way - including a dedication to data sharing across organizations and providing room for innovation – is instrumental in supporting the sustainable development goals.”

The competitors in the category were: The Climate Tile, New Zealand Hospital and ECCO.

The EnergyLab Nordhavn project supported by EUDP will conclude in the fall 2019 where the final results and recommendations will be presented at a conference in Copenhagen in the beginning of October.
