Center for Electric Power and Energy, DTU Elektro, was represented at this year’s Sustainable Lab at the Roskilde Festival with one of the Department’s electric vehicles, the Ebox.
The EBox has the very special and promising ability to deliver power back to the grid from its battery. This capability has some interesting applications in smart grid research and was thoroughly demonstrated at the festival.

How many mobile phones can one Electric Vehicle charge?

The answer is: a lot! Thanks to the Ebox parked in the Sustainable Zone, two DTU projects were powered: a 3D printer and a brain scanner. A special event was added in the form of a multitude of extension cords offering free EV-powered cellphone charging – a rough estimate is that more than 4500 phones could have been charged before the Ebox needed re-charging.

A lot of happy festival guest  dropped by to see the projects, listen to the music and get their phones charged free of charge.
