Professor Pierre Pinson from Center for Electric Power and Energy at DTU Elektro is elevated to IEEE Fellow, effective from 1 January 2020.
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has elevated Professor Pierre Pinson from DTU Elektro’s Center for Electric Power and Energy to IEEE Fellow effective from 1 January 2020.
This is due to "contributions to wind power forecasting techniques in renewable energy integration”. The citation is supported by a number of research outcomes, contributions to education and service, in relation to forecasting, optimization and game theory for energy systems and markets.
Professor Pierre Pinson is surprised and honored to be elevated as IEEE fellow.
"It is such a pleasure to get confirmation that my work on forecasting for renewable energy generation, especially wind energy, gets such recognition - mainly since this has represented so much work and focus over the last 15-20 years for me, my students and collaborators," he says.
The IEEE Grade of Fellow is conferred by the IEEE Board of Directors upon a person with an outstanding record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest. It is the highest grade of membership and is recognized by the technical community as a prestigious honor and an important career achievement.The total number selected in any one year cannot exceed one-tenth of one- percent of the total voting membership.
"It is commonly seen as a key milestone in the career of academics that do anything related to electrical engineers. And besides my research it is also an acknowledge of my service to the community, through my activities in teaching (e.g. tutorials on forecasting at conference), editorial work (e.g. former contribution as editor for the IEEE Transactions on Power Systems), etc.
When asked what the new title means to him, Professor Pierre Pinson answers:
"For me, it gives great visibility and a "stamp" that shows that my work is recognized by my peers. And it is great for DTU Elektro, since having IEEE fellows in an electrical engineering department is good for its reputation internationally."
