On 27 November 2014 the Nikola project held its half-way seminar, which gathered 55 professionals and enthusiasts interested in EV integration
The electric vehicle has a special potential in supporting a cost-efficient and secure power system based on renewable energy, and Nikola taps into this potential by investigating a range of power and energy services.
At the half-way seminar, preliminary project results were presented and demonstrated and the audience participated enthusiastically in discussions about EV’s, future potential and Smart Grid. Among the topics discussed were the energy and power market, the distribution system, EV owner acceptance, enabling technologies and standards.
The demonstrations included:
- Frequency regulation using a V2G-enabled EV
- Load control of EVs as part of Syslab
- An EV user interface
- ISO/IEC 15118 implementation
For the demonstrations some special LED cables were developed that illustrated the direction and rate of power flowing between the vehicles and the grid.
Nikola will run until June 2016. Read more at www.nikolaproject.info
