Energy research project, EcoGrid has just been granted renewed funding of 48.6 million from the EUDP scheme. The project has a similar self-financed scheme, which means that the project can be continued until June 2019.

The project is one of the world's largest smart grid projects, with 2,000 Bornholm households participating in the test platform. This setup is in itself quite unique. It provides global resonance and the project has also had over 400 international visits during the last four years - Bornholm is now known as the Bright Green Island besides the other name as the Sunshine Island.
- We are very pleased, that we can continue the great work developing tomorrow's power grid. In EcoGrid EU, a solid foundation has been laid over the last four years. This foundation we can build upon, so that we, in the long term, can achieve an optimal, flexible power grid based on new innovative solutions, says Jacob Østergaard, Professor and Head of Centre for DTU Electrical Engineering. The project will also be supported by the platform set up in PowerLabDK in which Bornholm acts as a full-scale living laboratory.
- DTU Electrical Engineering will provide the technical basis for the project within market design and demand response technologies, and we look forward to a continued good cooperation with both partners as well as consumers in Bornholm, says Jacob Østergaard.
In addition to the Center for Electricity and Energy at DTU Electrical Engineering the project consists of the Danish Power company Østkraft, IBM, Copenhagen Business School, Insero Software, Uptime IT, Krukow and 2plus1.
