This week, the French car manufacturer Groupe PSA (the group behind Citroën and Peugeot) organised a large internal showcase of innovation projects in Paris. PowerLabDK and the Department of Electrical Engineering at DTU were represented through a live stream from our SYSLAB facility, displaying the technology from our leading research in grid integrated vehicles.

From March 22nd to 24th the Groupe PSA hosted a large internal event demonstrating their latest innovation projects. The event was attended by representatives from the French Government as well as the PSA CEO and management team.

In order to rise in competence on the topic of electric vehicle smart grid integration, Groupe PSA has chosen to be a part of the Parker project, which is a collaboration between several academic and industrial partners, coordinated by Center for Electric Power and Energy at DTU Electrical Engineering.

The objective of the Parker project is to validate that series-produced electric vehicles, as part of an operational fleet, can support the power grid by becoming an integrated resource, providing seamless support to the power grid both locally and system wide.
Parker currently demonstrates the world’s first commercial implementation of vehicle to grid (V2G), also called grid integrated vehicle (GIV), with a fleet of electrical vehicles at Frederiksberg Forsyning, Denmark.

As part of the three day event in Paris, a demonstration of the Parker project was showcased through a live video feed of a Peugeot ION providing bi-directional grid support.
More specific, the demonstration showed a live feed from the Nuvve aggregation backend in USA, controlling an Italian charger, connected to a French electrical vehicle – all put together in our SYSLAB facility with a live feed from the lab.

The demonstration visualised the direction of the power flow between the vehicle and the grid, which made it possible to see when the vehicle was pulling power from the grid and when it was providing power to the grid. This was a demonstration of the world leading technology currently applied at PowerLabDK.

Center for Electric Power and Energy at DTU works on serval projects about electrical vehicles and the ability to support the future smart grid based on renewable energy. The Parker project is one of them.
