The World Academy of Science, Engineering and Technology (WASET) has awarded Ha Thi Nguyen from DTU Electrical Engineering's Center for Electric Power and Energy the Best Paper Award based on her contribution to the ICPSEC 2018 conference.
The International Conference on Power Systems and Energy Conversion is an important event for researchers at Center for Electric Power and Energy at DTU as it brings together leading academic scientists, researchers and research scholars to exchange and share their experiences and research results on all aspects of Power Systems and Energy Conversion.
The conference also provides a premier interdisciplinary platform for researchers, practitioners, and educators to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, and concerns as well as practical challenges encountered, and solutions adopted in the field.
This is the reason Ha Thi submitted a paper about hardware-in-the-loop testing for automatic voltage regulator of synchronous condensers focusing on the importance of simulating and demonstrating automatic voltage regulators in real systems before deployment thus ensuring lower cost, higher efficiency, and more flexibility. A paper for which she won the Best Paper Award.
The paper is based on her PhD, Frequency Characterization and Control for Future Low Inertia Systems, where she researches how high-level penetration and fluctuation of renewable energy sources affects the frequency stability and reliability of the power system, then using synchronous condensers and design its incorporating controllers to enhance the frequency stability for renewable-based systems. The PhD is a collaboration between DTU, Siemens, and Energinet.
Ha Thi aspires to use her research to design a new controller incorporating synchronous condenser for the system stability enhancement of renewable-based systems to guarantee a smooth green energy transition for power systems.
