Postdoc at CEE Mattia Marinelli

Power systems observability and controllability with high share of distributed energy resources

Mattia started his postdoc in power systems modeling with high share of distributed energy resources back in 2011 right after the completion of the PhD on modeling and integrated control of wind power and storage system at the University of Genova, Italy.

Thanks to the participation in several research projects in collaboration with Italian research centers and other Universities and also to the foreign experience in the Irish TSO Eirgrid, Mattia had the chance to both study and work not only in the wind turbines world but also with the other distributed and conventional technologies, thus getting more familiar with the modeling of power systems at both distribution and transmission levels.

During the visiting periods at the Risø Campus of DTU in 2011 and 2012, some of the power components models studied during the Ph.D. were validated by using the SYSLAB experimental facility.

By the end of 2012, Mattia had the chance to continue his postdoc studies at the newly formed Center for Electric Power and Energy at DTU. The involvement in several Danish and European research projects (such as Nikola, ESVM - Energy saving by voltage management, PECD - Pan European Climate Data, COTEVOS and ELECTRA), provided the opportunity to delve deeper into several aspects of power systems: ranging from distributed generation modeling to large scale renewable sources evaluation, getting to detailed grid analysis.

That contributed to broaden his scientific expertise, which was furthermore boosted by actively participating into the ISGT conference 2013 organization as scientific publication chair.
