Project Description
The goal of 20% renewables in 2020, set by the European Commission, gives rise to a lot of stress on the existing transmission and distribution networks, due to the high share of renewables. The burden can be lowered either by upgrading the networks or by introducing the SmartGrid technology.
The backgrounds for this project are the already ongoing EcoGrid EU project, the Danish Cell Project and Photovoltaic Island Bornholm project where up to 5 MW PV power is to be installed on the island of Bornholm. The PV systems are to be installed as rooftop systems on private buildings, on buildings/facilities of the municipality of Bornholm and a single or few larger PV power plants.
The work of the project will cover the main operational issues regarding the integration of solar energy, including the study of the operation impacts of PVs on the distribution and low voltage grids with the presence of other renewable resources and demand towards minimum grid reinforcement. The grid impact from PVs will also be studied by applying the state-of-the-art inverter technology to support the system stability and control.
