With increasing utilization of renewable energy sources, the fluctuation of their power production needs to be handled in order to achieve a reliable and secure electrical power system. In the Nordic region, EVs seem to be a potential option to the problem. They are now showing a rapid uptrend in the transportation sectors.
On the other hand, high penetration of EVs will increase the electrical power demand considerably. In order to achieve reliable and secure operations of the power system, it is essential to schedule the electrical demand of EVs so that the physical constraints of the power system within the distribution network are respected. Besides, the stochastic characteristics of the demand of EVs also need to be taken into consideration.
Tightly tied to the driving requirements of the users, the demand and the charging/discharging availability of EVs contain corresponding stochastic characteristics, which may have significant impacts on the distribution network operation optimization.
The main scientific focus of the project is the operational optimization of the distribution networks with the distribution network constraints when there is a high penetration level of EVs considering their stochastic characteristics.
